Toastmasters Club

February 2008

As the President of our local Toastmasters club, His Toastmaster's Voice, I'd like to welcome you to come to one of our meetings.

Our club meetings are held at the Lockheed Martin facilities on Centerton Road in Moorestown, and it should be noted that individuals who are not employees of Lockheed Martin may join our club.  In fact, about half of our members are not employees of Lockheed Martin.  While we do have many engineers as members we also have now, or in the past, members who are teachers, sales people, consultants, business owners, computer programmers, retired people and many others.

Our members participate in club activities in many different ways.  Some members serve as club officers; some members come to (almost) every meeting; some come occasionally; some never come to club meetings.  Some members are actively pursuing speaking goals as outlined in Toastmasters manuals while some just come to meetings mostly to listen and watch others speak.

Our members have varying levels of public speaking abilities.  Some members are extremely apprehensive about speaking at our meetings or anywhere.  Most of our members are nervous before giving a speech at our meetings, but many of us have learned to effectively manage that anxiety as a result of our Toastmasters experience.  Some members have reached a level of confidence to compete in Toastmasters speech contests including competitions against members from other Toastmasters clubs.  Some of our members are professional consultants and speakers.

Our members usually give speeches on topics which reflect their backgrounds and experiences.  Because of our membership diversity at our meetings we hear interesting speeches about many different cultures, religions, experiences and interests.

Our diversity makes our club meetings interesting and entertaining, but even with the diversity we all have common interests of self-improvement with emphasis on leadership and public speaking.  It's a great environment for personal growth.
